I’ve had my course project site reviewed by a couple of co-workers and they liked it overall. I chose my co-workers since we all work in I.T. and I knew that they would be a tough crowd to appease for the site. Even though these particular individuals do not know how to write HTML or CSS, they understand the work involved in order to deploy a site.
Critique #1
The first thing they noticed was that the website just didn’t look right from the start. This is because they were using IE 9 on their computer for this test. I tested it on Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and IE 11 but those are the only ones I had tested it on. My styles just didn’t look right on IE 9. I am OK with this since IE 9 is such an outdated browser. I certainly didn’t take the time to design the site so that it would be compatible with anything older than IE 11. I had them open in Chrome after this discovery and the results we much better!
Critique #2
One of the reviewers suggest my dropdown menu item that listed all of the games I reviewed wouldn’t be sustainable if I were to add more games than the 5 that I did review. I completely agree with this statement. This feature was more of a “because I can” type of thing that I wanted to try out on the site. To be honest, I didn’t use the top menu bar when going through the games at all. I have them listed on a side bar in alphabetical order and I used that for the most part.
Critique #3
The home page lists my ranked games and has a picture of each of those boardgames in the listing. The height of the image is the same for all of them but the width differs. This is something that one of the reviewers would like to see be made more uniform. It never really bothered me and I didn’t give it much thought but once he made his comment, I do agree with it. I will edit it so that I can get all of images more uniform.
